My Nightstand

In the spirit of combining our individual styles in one space, Corey and I have both made some compromises.  No room is a better example of this than the bedroom.  In an earlier post, I mentioned my effort to keep our bedding more masculine and dark in the condo.

We expect to continue this theme in the house and perhaps add to it with other bold colours.  Corey has told me that I can choose a more luxiurious fabric for the drapes, as long as they block out the sun.  I have chosen a deep purple taffeta and will post a picture soon.

While I like a cohesive room, we both spend too much time in the bedroom to settle for things we don't like.  Corey was thrilled when I suggested that we each style our own night table to reflect our personal taste.

I knew right away that mine would be more romantic and luxurious and I suspected that Corey would choose something more industrial.

For mine, I drew inspiration from all the Moroccan tray tables that I've been drooling over for years and a recent post on styleNorth about a similar table.  This version from 1st Dibs (below) is a great example.

I had this side table (a cheap-o from Lablaws) in the condo and I thought I'd start by spraying it with some black rust spray paint.

From there, I added an inexpensive tray with an intricate design.  I haven't decided whether or not to affix the tray or not.  I sort of like that I can pick it up if I want.  While it's a little small for the table, I love the look and the lip comes in handy since my earrings don't roll off.

What do you think?

I'll post pictures of the drapes and Corey's night table once they're finished.  I also have another little project (or two) in mind for this room.
