Friday Reading: Part 15 (New Year's Edition)

Let's begin with some hilarious new year's resolutions.

I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday!  While I spent more days than I care to count in bed with a cold, (the cold is what makes me contemplate some holiday decorating shortcuts like the one above for next year.) it was still a time for celebration and family and we're already looking forward to 2014 as the year we will finally make our eight year relationship "official" by getting married.  The new year brought even happier news for close friends who welcomed their first baby- a healthy and charming little girl!

Of course, holding her made Corey and I start to think of our own timeline and we returned home to discussions of exactly when we could begin to plan our own family.  Most of the timing centres on Corey's work, since he'll probably be taking the parental leave so that I can continue working with my clients.  I know I'm a lucky girl to have such a progressive guy. ;) Loving the name our friends chose for their daughter also sparked some baby name brainstorming of our own... which quickly evolved into research with spreadsheets of meanings, associations, combinations and graphs of popularity in recent years.  It was madness- Full blown baby name planning (short of hosting a focus group) for a baby that does not even exist as a twinkle in our eyes (or let's face it, some Boyz II Men and an extra glass of wine) yet!  Nuts, right?  Do other people do this too when they're not even going to be trying for many months or are we just crazy?
We don't have any names yet... We're actually still in negotiations.  Luckily, we have plenty of time to decide. :)

What have you been up to?  Did you get to travel over the holiday or did you enjoy time with family and friends at home?  Corey and I have been enjoying TED Talks on Netflix and I've also been reading some inspiring books.  I always feel so motivated and uplifted when I read quality books and one of my goals this year is to plan my reading list ahead so I'm more purposeful about it.  Don't worry- I'm still leaving room for guilty pleasure reading and I'm not afraid to admit to loving like those darn Twilight books... We can't be thinkers ALL the time.

So, without further adieu, here are some fun links I've collected over the past couple of weeks:

This point of view makes me want to stop thinking of myself as being busy as if it's something negative.  From now on, I'll try to think of my days as being full.  Full days are not a cause for complaint and whining about being sooo busy is unattractive.

This video made me feel good and it also inspired me!

I wanted to cheer for this news anchor when I watched her brave response to bullying!

On the topic of body weight, I also applaud the author of this bright article.

I love this idea for a creative handmade gift for a child.  What a great way to encourage imagination!

This tongue-in-cheek etiquette column (think "Dear Abbey" but with bite!) had me rolling on the floor!

And since we just celebrated the beginning of 2014, I thought you'd like the following new year's themed articles:
